Destined For Diabetes : Part Uno

Diabetes... incurable? Oh god... It seems that on this day, April 28th, there are now 6 more hungry people in the world bound for diabetes. What's more? Probably the worst of them all is going to be me. Yes, sadly... I am proud to announce that I am officially part of the 'DFD' club! T_T

DFD Part Uno - April 28
Shandagoras?
The air filled with the scent of sugar. Even the very olfactory buds of my very nasal cavity could sense the change in its concentration, multiplying by multiples you can't even imagine every nanosecond of the day. Reminds me of Flo-Rida's sugar.... Sigh....

Today, the DFD were on a mission. For.......

Object 1 of disaster, THE NIKE SHOES. At 11.30 a.m. GMT +8 time, a certain chilled brandy headed out to the Bay of the Queen in search of the first ingredient of this epic, disastrous cauldron of doom. Despite all the hustle and rush for time, it seemed that time was irrelevant. After scouring the various stalls and stands, it finally came down to a certain JUSCO where the ingredient would be perfect for its value, for the brandy, that is. Smartly, Math came into the board game and off he went with his formulas and theorems, as seen below :

Every 100 dollars, 20 dollar rebate.
Nike Shoe A : 209 dollars 0 cents.
Adidas Shoe B : 199 dollars 0 cents.

Figure out that mystery question and you shall win the answer of the first ingredient to the magical DFD cauldron!

Why did it have something to do with the DFD cauldron? I mean, shoes and cauldron? What the heck is the relation of those two? Surely you don't want to drink a magical potion made of rubber! Ah! But this was to lead to the next event!

The Broken Shandy and the Gold of "Unbrokenness"!
Short and simple. The now broken brandy has now a new pair of shoes. To what? To have an excuse to withdraw his dedicated payroll earned from the scroll center that has borders everywhere around its stall. Still untouched, it laid beautifully on the safety vault in the storage. However, everything comes to an end. At the end, the broken brandy had no choice but to withdraw his gold of "unbrokenness" in order to join the journey of those who are destined for DIABETES!

Tribal Council and the Big Red Monster?!
Sadly, it wasn't a case of elimination at tribal council. More of a meeting of some sort. But as the chosen ones got to the venue, gallons of water started pouring onto the ground beneath their very vehicles. It was almost certain that they were destined to not approach the "Laksa Of Longkang" (LOL) to start the journey towards their destiny. Instead, fate has led them towards the secret of Rat Island. After minutes of travelling, they have finally reached their destiny!!!!!!!

Behold! The Big Red Noodles! *otherwise known as Mee Goreng*

These tasty noodles are made of well, flour which contributes to over 60 percent of the above dish! This Indian delicacy, consisting of none other than beancurd, potatoes, veges and the ever so secret ingredient, SQUID!, became the catalyst in an effort to quench their thirst for food. Simply unforgettable. A renowned marvel in its territory. A little spicy but not too much. Thankfully, no wasabi added as we already have enough greens in the form of vegetables!Just right for hungry hearts like these men. You can see it from the picture! Ain't those noodles look big, red and tasty?! Judge by yourself. For that, it rates 7 point 3 on the rate-o-meter!

The Legend of the Green Worms
Next on their quest, is the legend of the green invertebrates! These worms thrive in icy conditions, preferably in milk and brown sugar, while enjoying the red beans growing all around it. Don't believe me? OBSERVE!

*Chendol*

As described, these green objects, also known as Grass Jelly, together with red beans in a bowl of brown sugary and milky cauldron to form what we known as Chendol in the picture shown above. Ah, even Collins of India has labelled it as the most satisfying legendary food that the tale of the Pearl of the Orient has to offer. It has a sweet taste which is the perfect dessert after a heavy meal. The combination of brown sugar, coconut milk and red bean enhances its sweetness, giving a very delightful taste for consumers. Aside from that, seeing as the rain had fled from the sky, a chill from the shaved ice is the way to lighten the effects of the blaze of the Sun. Simply satisfying. My 6th time this year at the stall. A fair 8.0 out of 10 for it. No questions asked!

Here's a look at the stall just in case any of you gets lost finding it!

Even the P.C.K. family agrees. No questions asked! =D

Coco-Nuts Over Jelly?
Our third stop of this expedition brings us towards Dato' Keramat where the coconut haven is found. Being relatively unknown to all of them, we set out on a journey to discover this new prospect in our chase towards the ultimate dessert. Let's see, behold, COCONUTS!

Well, not exactly coconuts. Coconuts in a fridge I would say. If you look at the picture in great detail, you will notice that these coconuts in a fridge were not mere coconuts. They were.....!!!!

Tadaa! The first jello to emerge out of the husk courtesy of the now unbroken Brandy! I shall name it........ Flubber 2?!

Well, this is exactly what 3 dollars and 70 cents looks like. Coconut with white flesh around it. Boy does this attract a carnivore like me! But what is so special about this coconut which really makes it so expensive? Let's see it once again!

Yeah, you got it. The flubber! Unlike Robin Williams, this was actually made by :

According to Mr Joez the proprietor, these coconut are grown in Perak and are of the pandan species. To form the jelly, the outer husk of the coconut is initially removed and then roasted in the oven. After a cooling period, they are then placed in the cooler room. During this period, jelly will be formed…definitely a new innovation. He assured us that no additive or artificial chemical is added. The jelly is formed through the hot and cold process.
Thanks to What2See : Best of Penang Food (CK Lam) for the information and various other sites who confirmed it as well.

As the tag said "100% asli", it is kind of innovative how Mr. Joez had come across this idea. However, our Collins still believes its powder. Suit himself. Better still, if it's powder, more diabetes for us! :D. But truly this is one of a kind. You rarely see things like this around in this whole wide world. Flubber 2, unlike its ancestor, is a lot softer, less sticky and certainly edible to men. It has a coconut juice taste to it since it was coconut juice after all. Eating it along with its flesh makes it fairly enjoyable. I must say there might be nothing so special about this, but certainly an exposure that proved to be satisfying for people like us who have found out about this for the first time. I shall give it a 6.8 out of 10!

Oh, and what about Coco being nuts? Well, apparently a certain self-proclaimed Admiral/Coco *You know who you are!* went lost 2 times into the unknown depths of Sungai Pinang and came back with another unidentified being instead *no offense :X*. Instead of being grateful to the one who could not finish it *another you know you are*, he went nuts over it and kept refusing to eat it. Sigh. Such a pity. I guess Admirals already have their own Coco "nuts" to savour, hah?

To recap the story above. Basically, we went to three great places before the people gave up due to full stomachs. I hope it was hugely satisfactory. If any of the above places seriously inhaled profusely for you guys, then sorry. But anyhow, I certainly enjoyed the whole journey and not just the food.

Okay, I'll stop being so formal. Ah, another success in my food discovery! Destined For Diabetes shall continue with more sugar and fat intake as we return next time on Part Dos! Enjoy! :D

And yes, I know this is a corny post >_<, but w/e xP
End

Special Thanks to Jimmy, Collins, James, Sheng and Soony for coming! =D
