Of Roast Pork and Noodles

Eat eat eat~! My current motto? Well, not really. Anyhow, been trying to make most of my meals special and unique ones instead of the usual stuff. Mainly lunch I guess. Guess what? Actually found some good spots to eat recently. One, being more of a duck rice kind of shop while another selling "board mee". Cool!

First outing was with Soony, Shandy, KS and Yon Hon to a shop at Chulia Street. It is not exactly a coffee shop but actually an old hotel sort of thing where the hotel is like gone now. So now, what do they do? DUCK RICE! Yeah. I'm serious. You have one famous duckrice/charsiew/roastedpork stall out there serving the hotel shop downstairs, along with the drink shop of course. Well, it starts at around 11.30a.m. and by 11.45, the shop is usually full and you would have to wait for seats! Ask Soony and he'll tell you everything =D So, we ordered a Char Siew & Siew Bak rice each and it comes with little veges as well. For RM3.50! Quite reasonable.

My plate of Char Siew & Siew Bak rice! Delicious!

Well, I actually had two plates of this. Actually, you could just order a plate in the middle filled with Roasted Pork, Char Siew as well as their special Chinese sausage thing *called Su Qiong* and share the whole plate. Then, order soup and a plate of veges as well. Pretty worth it. A lot of people come here for lunch, especially the working class. The shop is always full and this happens almost every day of the week. Cool, right?

The best part of it is actually the Char Siew, being the main attraction of the customers. It's somewhat of a different class from the others. Well, you might say it's not like some grand dish of some extremely prestigious restaurant, but among hawker stalls, this is actually very good. It's actually quite juicy on the oily parts and the meat is also quite soft. The Roasted Pork aka Siew Bak is just so so but it's a great side dish. I would recommend the Su Qiong instead of the duck as I doubt the duck is nice. The special sausage is different from the average Chinese sausage *Lap Qiong*, maybe like the Taiwanese sausage but softer? Ahha! Anyhow, I rate it 8 out of 10 as I'm a meat lover XD. Great meal any time of any day. One of the gems of Penang I suppose =P

Nutmeg!

Ah, my father actually told me that they sold this and asked me to try. Quite rare in Penang. Nutmeg plus the little sour plum inside. Pretty nice drink. Though it might be kind of sour/sweet, depending on your taste. Just right for me.

Then, today I went for this "board mee" (Pan Mee) opposite Chung Hwa after finding out about it from a Penang food blog this morning. Hence, I decided to go to the place after a few friends had some stuff to do =P. Guess what? It turned out great.

Yeah, you got it. Island PRK Restaurant! Haha, well, I guess they need maintainence. But it's right opposite Chung Hwa High School. Lots of students go there after lunch along with residents and others. Quite a lot of people just now. Well, there were supposedly a few others which are nice and quite popular. But I wanted to try different. So..........

Introducing..... Pan Mee!

Hooray! Decent meal I had *nods*. It's sort of like Koay Teow Th'ng but the homemade one is a bit sticky I guess. They had the Maggi mee type they made but I decided to take this. XD It's a bit harder than Koay Teow that's for sure. Maybe more taste than Koay Teow Th'ng? Ikan bilis, veges, minced meat along with some mushrooms. Well, there was soy sauce for extra flavor but I don't really take those hot green chilli. Ah, nothing but a decent meal. Oh, and along with that, comes my Winter Melon juice! *homemade* Pretty good. *loves sweet stuff* Ah well, another decent meal certainly worth its total of RM3.50! Budget lunches for the win! =D Oh. And I rate it 7 out of 10! Good choice if you want something soupy or a little normal, not too wild meal!

Yay! My first posts about food! Okay, I feel hungry now. *runs for more*
